PT Reasuransi Nasional Indonesia, or abbreviated NASIONAL RE, was established based on deed Number 129 dated 22 August 1994 in front of Sutjipto SH, Notary in Jakarta, which was later amended by Deed Number 53 dated 15 September 1994 in front of Achmad Abid, SH, Alternate Notary in Jakarta and Deed Number 15 dated 7 October 1994 in front of Sutjipto SH, Notary in Jakarta. The deed was then approved by the Ministry of Justice Republic of Indonesia Number C2-15.266.HT.01.01 Th.94 dated 11 October 1994 and announced in the State Gazette of Republic of Indonesia dated 27 December 1994 Number 103 Supplement Number 10862.

Initially, the Company was a unit at the level of a Department which later developed into a Division of PT Asuransi Kredit Indonesia (Persero) (ASKRINDO), which was named General Reinsurance Division. This division functions as a Professional Reinsurer business unit. Thus, even though de jure Company was established in 1994, de facto Company has started its business since 1971, namely since ASKRINDO received a license to run Loss Reinsurance business as a supporting business in addition to the Credit Insurance business which is its main business. With the enactment of Law Number 2 year 1992 concerning Insurance Business, ASKRINDO was not permitted to operate as both insurance and reinsurance at the same time, so that a separation was carried out into a separate entity where the company (NASIONAL RE which was formed on August 22, 1994) obtained an operating license as a reinsurance company in 1995 based on the Decree of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia Number 27/KMK.17/1995 dated 9 January 1995.

The majority shareholding percentage of NASIONAL RE comes from PT Asuransi Kredit Indonesia with 99.9998% and Yayasan Dana Kesejahteraan Karyawan Askrindo with 0.0002%.

On October 28, 2005, NASIONAL RE expanded the business by starting a Sharia Reinsurance business. This step is in line with the rapid development of Sharia-based economy in Indonesia, including sharia insurance. Increasingly growing development of sharia insurance in Indonesia, of course requires reinsurance that also operates based on Islamic sharia, so that mutually beneficial cooperation can be held between the two parties.

The addition of the Sharia Reinsurance business sector based on the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) of PT Reasuransi Nasional Indonesia was ratified in Deed Number 42 dated 10 August 2005 in front of Aulia Taufani, SH, Substitute Notary for Sutjipto SH, in Jakarta, and obtained approval from the Minister of Law and Human Rights RI Number C-24079 HT.01.04.TH.2005 dated 31 August 2005.

Since establishment, the Company has recorded quite rapid developments and has succeeded in building public trust, as can be seen from the various awards it has received. In 2006 the Company received an award as the Best Reinsurance Company, and in 2008 it received an award as the Best Sharia Reinsurance Unit, both based on the Investor Magazine version.

The company markets various reinsurance products, including Reinsurance of Property, Motor Vehicles, Engineering, Cargo, Marine Hull, Aircraft Hull, Credit, Surety Bond, Satellite, Energy, Liability, Personal Accident, Miscellaneous and Life Reinsurance, both for Reinsurance Conventional and Sharia Reinsurance.
